Internat'l Women's Day

Saharawi Association draws attention to the plight of Women in the Camps of Tindouf

The Association of the Abducted and Disappeared drew the International Community's attention to the suffering of the women in the Tindouf Camps in south-west Algeria.

On International Women's Day, Dahi Akai, President of the Association of the Abducted and Disappeared, denounced both the cruel practices perpetrated by the Polisario leadership against the women in the Camps of Tindouf and the continual violation of their basic human rights.

The Association took part in a demonstration and sit-in to show their solidarity with the women who are detained against their will in Tindouf, and appealed to the International Community to bring an end to the chaotic situation in Tindouf and the numerous forms of punishment and humiliation which are perpetrated against women in these Camps.

The participants also called for the lifting of the blockade, which prevents those detained in the Camps against their will, from leaving Tindouf and returning to their homes in Morocco, where they could contribute and participate freely in the development of Morocco's southern provinces.

The demonstrators also called upon the International Community to exert pressure on the Polisario to force the Polisario to provide information about the hundreds of disappeared and abducted people in the Polisario's prisons.
