Abductions

A Moroccan previously detained in Algeria, Mr Lamani Abdallah, meets two members of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva.

Mr Lamani provided information to members of the International Committee of the Red Cross about a group of Moroccan detainees who had been abducted in Morocco and taken to Algeria after the the declaration of the 1991 Saharan cease-fire.  He also told them about the plight of a second group of Moroccans who are being held in a military prison to the south of Algiers.

Mr Lamani, a civilian working in Casablanca, was returning from visiting his family in Tata, when he was abducted on 20 August 1980 by armed elements of the Polisario who intercepted the car in which he was travelling and who drove him into Algeria, where he remained until 1 September 2003.

Madame Malika Kriti daughter of Souailem Ould Haj Bachir, who was abducted from his house in the town of Laayoune by members of the Polisario in 1974 and who is still missing also met the two members of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
