At the United Nations' Human Rights' Council in Geneva the non-governmental organisation Interfaith International denounced the problems which Moroccan Saharawis living in Tindouf in south-west Algeria experience in matters concerning food.
Participating in a panel on the right to food (theme three, regarding the promotion and protection of human rights, civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to development) which is part of the tenth session of the Human Rights' Council, Interfaith International emphasised that women, children and the elderly suffered from malnutrition in these Camps, due to the sale of this food which is destined for these vulnerable people. Interfaith International deplored that these items are sold in markets in countries bordering Algeria, by those - in this instance the Polisario leadership - who should ensure that these goods benefit those for whom they are intended.
Interfaith International called upon those who defend human rights and civil society to work together to ensure that food supplies are guaranteed everywhere in a fitting and honourable way.
